If you’re running for office, you probably shouldn’t soundtrack your rally with an Adele song. Following repeated usage of two of Adele’s biggest singles — “Rolling in the Deep” and “Skyfall” — during Donald Trump’s rallies, Adele has made it clear: she doesn’t want someone to inject her music into the polticial conversation. “Adele has not given permission for her music to be used for any political campaigning,” a spokesperson for Adele says in a statement to The Independent. Donald Trump is said to be an Adele fan, even having attended her recent NYC performance. However, just like almost every artist not named Kid Rock, Adele doesn’t seem to want to associate herself with Trump in any way. On the flipside, maybe Trump’s team can be content with Adele’s response being more diplomatic and less aggressive than R.E.M. icon Michael Stipe’s. After learning that his music was being used in the same context, the R.E.M. frontman responded, “Go f*ck yourselves, the lot of you—you sad, attention grabbing, power-hungry little men.”
