With his city’s scene becoming the Midwest’s new beacon of rap in recent years, Grizzley serves up a powerful comeback track and visual. Appropriately titled “First Day Out,” the artist’s new record finds him spinning a striking, intensely-personal narrative about real-life struggles and triumphs; he uses a four-minute span of bars to spit a robberies-to-Rolexes story that dwarfs most rapper’s “trials and tribulations.” Hip-hop is no stranger to tales of redemption, but very few emcees can introduce their message in a way so aggressive it makes Meek Mill’s intros and G Herbo’s lyrical records look tame.
