OLAF HUSSEIN's 2016 Fall/Winter "OBJECTS IN MIRROR" Lookbook Recalls 1984's Classic 'Paris, Texas'
The acclaimed Wim Wenders flick inspires the Amsterdam-based designer’s latest lookbook.
Acclaimed at the time of its release and an enduring classic to this day thanks to the likes of Ry Cooder’s score and Robby Müller’s cinematography, Wim Wenders’s 1984 film Paris, Texas provides the inspiration for OLAF HUSSEIN’s latest lookbook. Dubbed “OBJECTS IN MIRROR,” the collected imagery — shot by longtime Hussein collaborator Carlijn Jacobs — takes cues from “the tougher aesthetics of the true Americana” that are pervasive throughout the film and, thus, combines car culture with long, winding roads and wide-open spaces. Those aesthetics not only influence the setting of the shots, but they provide a basis for Hussein’s pieces, too, as the Amsterdam-based label utilizes faded hues, heavyweight cottons and durable ripstop throughout. The rusty red baseball cap of Paris, Texas‘ main character, Travis Henderson, even makes an appearance.
