Food has a remarkable power for bringing together people of all different stripes, and nowhere is that more apparent than the time-honored ritual of a meal with one’s family at the dinner table. The New York TimesT Brand Studios collaborated with Public Record for a short film titled “A Seat at the Table,” which uses a split-screen format to simultaneously show the process of cooking a sumptuous feast at the homes of two different families. The result is an intimate portrait of two imperfect families that look past all their differences within to bond over the common denominator of good food.
