In the modern age of the well-rounded creative, it’s always refreshing to see an artist display a natural talent that transcends the confines of genres. Not one to be pigeonholed into a musical style, Harrison Brome represents a breed of artists that triumphantly seizes the entire production process, sometimes with a little help. The 19-year-old Vancouver artist made noise in 2015 with his breakthrough tracks, “Fill Your Brains,” “Midnight Island” and “Pools,” and has been gaining traction amongst peers in the music scene. In addition to being featured Kitsuné Maison’s latest “Compilation 17: World Wild Issue” disc, Harrison was recently added to Spotify’s 2016 Spotlight list of artists to watch in Canada. With only four singles under his belt, each track has been accompanied with graphic designed-cover art that hint at a certain colour theme for each song.

Now, the young singer/producer takes a slight departure from his laidback, emotive ballads with his latest track “Gambling Hearts,” an emotionally-charged indie track injected with electronic synths and catchy hooks.

Harrison describes the meaning behind “Gambling Hearts” as:

“My songs are commonly born from personal experiences. This one is no different. I was caught in that weird space, transitioning out of one relationship, but still harbouring feelings for that person. I eventually became involved with someone else. Each individual in that situation has emotions invested, risking potential heartbreak for the shot at something great.”

At the ripe age of 19, Harrison already knows the trials and tribulations of relationships, where an increasing reliance on social apps like Tinder are skyrocketing among young people. With a penchant for producing his own beats as a means of emotional escape, Harrison’s melancholic sound deems him one refreshing entity in the industry. Take a listen to “Gambling Hearts” below.
