Detroit’s own, Illa J, shares his brand new single “Universe” produced by Canadian production duo Potatohead People. The single is available on iTunes now and will be part of Illa J’s full length self-titled album being released on October 2, via NYC imprint, Bastard Jazz.
Needing a creative and geographical change, Illa J now resides in Montreal, where he initially met the production duo Potatohead People and recorded two songs for their “Big Luxury” album which was released earlier this year. The results and feedback from the first two songs started the process of Illa J and the production duo to start recording an entire album together. With additional production from Montreal’s Kaytranada and Noo Bap, Illa J’s forthcoming album will showcase his growth, while stepping out of the shadows of his older brother, and continuing to carve out his own path.
