The Volkswagen Group has unveiled its latest performance concept car at the annual Wörthersee festival in Austria, and this time it’s the Golf GTE Sport. Under the hood the car houses a three-motor plug-in hybrid system, with a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four flanked with electric motors mounted at each axle. That translates to a total 396 horsepower and an impressive 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds. It can drive under full electric power, act as a traditional hybrid, or go into full “GTE” mode where the engine and both motors are working simultaneously. The performance mindset carries through the styling as well, with carbon fiber doors, five-point seat belts, and a racing-inspired steering wheel just a few of the bells and whistles on this stunner.
