For our latest in Essentials, we take a look at the fundamental items of contemporary menswear designer Mohsin Ali. The London-based clothier started his career in the fashion industry by working for numerous brands after graduating from the London College of Fashion before eventually launching his eponymous label MOHSIN in 2010. Ali’s natural affinity for clean and minimalist clothing stems from embracing a brand ethos of “form, fabric and function” in the construction of his garments, and the designer is heralded for his graceful silhouettes that feature high-quality technical fabrics.
A clean stationary pack is important to Ali as the designer often carries an A6 Moleskine journal, a silver BIC pen, and a brass pen case by Japanese brand MIDORI filled with an assortment of MIDORI pens and pencils. Practical tech includes his iPhone 5s and a handy MIMIBOT Darth Vader USB stick. Ali’s essential fashion items are kept to a minimum, and includes the “Mad Hatter” hat by Art in black, spectacles from Hardy Amies eyewear, and a polished steel Rolex Explorer II watch. A black COMME des GARCONS wallet is handy for small items, and it’s attached to a brown Kamal leather key lanyard by Ally Capellino. Ali carries his essentials in his go-to luggage that he co-designed, the Mohsin x Globe-Trotter case. The case is part of a range of limited-edition luxury luggage that are handmade with Victorian machinery and laser-etched with subtle, intricate designs.
