A Look inside a Capsule Hotel in Kyoto

The lack of usable space in Japan has given way to the trend of capsule hotels, such as the 9 Hours Kyoto seen here. The interior evokes a spaceship-like vibe with its ultra clean lines and minimalist design. Capsules are outfitted with high-grade linens and slippers, and each features a Panasonic-built sleep system that gently lulls guests to sleep and wakes them up by modulating the light. Guests share both the toilets and shower facilities, which are stocked with the hotel’s own bath products. There are separate floors for men and women, with signs and text color-coded to effectively direct each to their designated areas. Despite what the name might suggest, guests are welcome to stay at the hotel for up to 24 hours.
