It looks like Spotify is entering the New Year with some legal trouble. The popular music streaming service has been hit with a class action lawsuit over alleged unpaid royalties. As Billboard reports, the suit was filed by Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker frontman and founding member David Lowery on Monday, December 28. Lowery seeks a minimum of $150 million in damages against Spotify, stating that Spotify was “knowingly, willingly, and unlawfully reproducing and distributing copyrighted compositions without obtaining mechanical licenses.”
