A$AP Rocky, Alec Baldwin and Jonathan Adler on Personal Style
When you look good, you feel good.
Online magazine The Cut recently caught up with 25 creatives to talk about personal style, more specifically their ”first moment of satorical self-awareness” and how certain clothes make them feel. Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky, actor Alec Baldwin and designer/decorator Jonathan Adler were among those featured in the latest “Men Getting Dressed” series, and their answers are hilariously honest. Rocky seemed to take notice of his style long before his days of superstardom or even his 10th birthday, while Adler recalls his confident younger-self rocking a Brooks Brothers suit and Gucci loafers during his bar mitzvah. Alec Baldwin admits his style peaked back in 1989 during a photo shoot with renowned photographer Greg Gorman and hasn’t been able to reach the same levels since then. A$AP Rocky: The first time I thought I looked good I was a child … From what I can remember, when I really liked something that I wore I was either 6 or 7 years old. I wore the patent-leather Jordan 11s with a black dungaree suit and a white T-shirt. It was Easter and my dad got me those sneakers; they were either white and black or red and black.
Alec Baldwin: There was a moment when I thought I looked fantastic. I thought I looked great. For like one day in 1989. I thought I looked so good. I was doing a photo shoot with Greg Gorman. He shot photographs of me for a magazine. And damn I looked great that day, but it’s all been downhill since then.
Jonathan Adler: My bar mitzvah look was on fleek. Navy Brooks Brothers suit, red tie, and mini Gucci loafers — a totally early-’80s power look. There’s a picture of me lounging on a sofa, surrounded by all the girls who were there. I felt powerful and I felt confident. But mostly I felt that I wished they were dudes.
