As far as status symbols go, the Rolls-Royce is perhaps one of the foremost in automotive. The brand’s influence transcends its high-end status and has, for generations it seems, influenced the world of hip-hop. In a surprise move, the English automotive giant has taken legal action against Atlanta rapper Royce Rizzy – formerly Rolls Royce Rizzy – charging the artist with trademark infringement. The case is founded on Rizzy’s old tour merchandise, which itself appropriates the brand’s ‘Double R’ logo. Having dropped ‘Rolls’ from his stage name over a year ago, Rizzy claims to only wear the T-shirts, but does not sell the product in question for profit. The case does highlight the mutually beneficial relationship between artists and corporate entities, specifically the gratuitous marketing, which seems to be overlooked here. A questionable case on all accounts, check back here for more news surrounding Rolls-Royce vs. Royce Rizzy.
