Every year Jukkasjärvi, a small village in northern Sweden, welcomes around 50,000 visitors to its famous ICEHOTEL throughout the winter season. Now in its 25th edition, a select group of creators around the world are chosen to give their input for an ”art suite” in the hotel, in the form of sculptural, light-based or typographic elements. This year’s version is now open to visitors following a three-month architectural and interior renovation where 1,000 tonnes of water and 30,000 m3 of “snice” (snow and ice particles) from the Torne river were utilized to give the hotel structural stability and ephemerality. Among the artistic features offered in the 25th ICEHOTEL include typographic installations made of ice, abstract interpretations of love, baroque architecture and European folk art motifs among others.
