Learn About the Origins of Grime in This Short Film
Technology and youth culture spurn the growth of a new genre.
London-based publication i-D recently released a 12-minute short that delved into the history of the city’s grime scene. Though the genre may just be making its way across the globe in recent years, mainstay artists such as Skepta, Dizzee Rascal and Wiley, all of whom are featured in this documentary, have been there since the genre broke away from the garage scene more than a decade ago. The first part of “A History of British Style Tribes” finishes off with some coverage on the emo scene that was rapidly growing around the same time.
