adidas Sues Marc Jacobs for Ripping off the Three Stripes

adidas has filed a suit against Marc Jacobs this Wednesday, claiming that the luxury brand had released a set of sweaters that rip off the sportswear giant’s Three Stripe design. The lawsuit states that Marc Jacobs is infringing upon the iconic design with a line of sweaters bearing parallel stripes down its sleeves, seemingly trying to ride on adidas’s design and can easily be mistaken. According to the suit, “Marc Jacobs’ use of confusingly similar imitations of Adidas’ Three-Stripe Mark is likely to deceive, confuse, and mislead purchasers and prospective purchasers into believing that the apparel sold by Marc Jacobs is manufactured by, authorized by, or in some manner associated with adidas, which it is not.” adidas also mentions that it has spent millions of dollars to promote this trademark to become instantly recognizable worldwide, therefore it is seeking monetary of statutory damages along with the halting of production of these sweaters.
