As Kevin Durant and company get set for this summer’s FIBA Basketball World Cup, Nike presents the brand new uniform that Team USA will don in Spain. The lightest uniform in Nike Basketball history, the USA’s latest Hyper Elite getup takes cues from the Swoosh’s classic Windrunner, placing the jacket’s signature chevron across the jersey’s chest in patriotic red, white and blue. The 26-degree speed graphic–which is also a nod to the roughly 1,000 directional changes or “cuts” a player makes throughout a single game–then fades into a representation of the American flag, extending across the sides of the shorts from the front to the back.
In terms of construction, the new design’s flocked lining, strategically placed at the inside of the neck, allows a player to comfortably wipe excess moisture from his face while ultra-lightweight stretch mesh at the back of the jersey regulates body temperature. Newly redeveloped, the sphere fabric on the jersey’s front further helps in maintaining a comfortable body temperature by wicking away moisture and eliminating the cling that results from excess sweat.
The shorts themselves even include a perforated, vented waistband and incorporate flex vents at the knees for articulation to coincide with player movement. Like the jersey, the shorts sport a flocked “wipe zone”–this time placed at the hip so a player can wipe sweat away from his hands. Finally, additional perforations are included throughout and work in conjunction with Nike’s Pro Combat Hypercool and Hyperstrong underlayer.
Team USA’s latest Nike Basketball kit is due out August 7 at select Nike Basketball retailers and Nike.com, and will make its on-court debut that night as the USA takes on Brazil in an exhibition at Chicago’s United Center.
