Last week, Roc Nation announced that Kanye West would be postponing the Australian leg of his ‘Yeezus tour’ in order to finish his upcoming eight-track album. Now, young producer and G.O.O.D Music signee Evian Christ is offering a peek at what to expect from the album, as in a recent interview with Self-Titled Magazine, he has hinted that it may sound a “bit like Otis Redding [but] a bit like Mobb Deep.” If you’re looking for a more concise description on what to expect, however, you may be out of luck, as according to Christ, Kanye’s demands are not necessarily the easiest to understand – therefore implying that those who work closely with Kanye may on occasion experience difficulty understanding his creative direction.
“He wants something that sounds a bit like Otis Redding, a bit like Mobb Deep … Kanye is the one dude who’s like, ‘This is not experimental enough. This is too poppy. Make something else.’ The other guys are like, ‘We don’t get it.’”
According to Christ, however, there is a creative freedom that is born from Kanye’s loose direction that makes him “a dream to work with,” as “no one else gives you that level of creative freedom. When he wants you to work to a blueprint, the blueprint is: ‘Don’t make a rap beat. Anything but a rap beat.’”
Earlier today Evian Christ jumped on Young Thug’s party anthem, “Stoner,” which can be streamed here, or you can head here to peep the full interview.
