It’s impossible to consider Ai Weiwei‘s work without also considering the underlying themes. In the wave of hype surrounding his recent “Evidence” exhibition in Germany, the controversial Chinese artist has also taken the lid off of his cinematic endeavor: The Sand Storm. A dystopian science-fiction piece (what else?), the film features Weiwei in a leading role as a smuggler in a water-deprived society. In order to protect the privacy of the work, filming was conducted in near-complete secrecy, yet the team is presently seeking post-production funding to reveal the film around the world. Learn a bit more about the film below, then head over to Kickstarter to help fund The Sand Storm if so inclined.
