Having already made the big American headlines by importing legendary designer NIGO, its discussions with J.Crew, and landing Pharrell as its newest face, Uniqlo continues to grow its presence in the States with the launch of SPRZ NY (“Surprise New York”). Aiming to marry the ever-parallel worlds of art and fashion, Uniqlo’s SPRZ NY will tap artists around the world for limited-edition apparel collections.
The inaugural range features a collaboration with MoMA, with the stalwart museum selecting the work of its most iconic artists – Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat amongst them – for an array of T-shirts, outerwear and accessories. The entire second floor of Uniqlo’s New York flagship store was renovated to host the SPRZ collections, which amongst large glass casings, an iPad shopping/surfing station, and towering LCD screens, also features its own Starbucks Experience. Aside from the store, the SPRZ collection will also be available at a specially-designed website. If in the New York City area this summer, be sure to check out SPRZ NY on Fifth Avenue.
