Back in 2006, Brazilian legend Ronaldo returned to the world stage wearing the latest in Nike boot technology: the Mercurial Vapor III. Featuring Nike’s very first carbon fiber heel counter, the groundbreaking cleat was notable for its sleek upper, lightweight build, and high-visbility colorways and has gone on to influence many of Nike’s football boots in recent years. Now, as the world’s greatest players get set to take center stage at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil this summer, Nike introduces the “Fast Forward ’06″ edition of the Mercurial Vapor IX – thus providing today’s players with a contemporary boot that sports visual elements inspired by the 2006 classic. Subtle graphic references and a bold upper of green and gold combine with modern technology and innovation to celebrate the Mercurial Vapor’s legacy while a small heel logo commemorates the original year of inspiration. The “Fast Forward ’06″ edition of the Mercurial Vapor IX will soon be available in limited quantities at select Nike Soccer retailers.
