Kendrick Lamar "i" Music Video

Art prevails in the latest music video release from rap pack leader Kendrick Lamar. The artist has just unveiled his visual interpretation of the made-for-charts single “i,” yet adds a different, somewhat darker spin to the otherwise poppy tune. The opening scene might harken to a moving version of Ernie Barnes’ “Sugar Shack” painting (which is also featured on Marvin Gaye’s I Want You LP from 1976) – a fitting parallel given the soulful, Afrocentric motifs within the song. The video finds K.Dot escaping the madness of a nighttime dance hall, only perhaps to be further haunted by his own internal struggles. Done with the same sense of moral juggling as in his Grammy-snubbed opus, take the music video for “i” as a token of good will for Kendrick’s forthcoming third studio album.
