Creative Director Rishi Kaneria has put together a supercut of Stanley Kubrick‘s films to examine his use of the color red. Colors have powerful psychological effects on humans and Kubrick has been able to use that for both atmospheric and thematic purposes in order to convey a certain mood. Red’s many meanings include darker themes like death, blood, danger, anger and war, but also erotic notions like passion, desire, love and sex, all of which are present in Kubrick’s films. Furthermore Kaneria points out that the dualistic nature of red plays into Kubrick’s “Jungian” theme, which is the notion of duality present in all his works: sex and violence, birth and death, war and peace, fear and desire. Check out this intriguing supercut of Stanley Kubrick’s films above, which includes footage from Spartacus, 2001 and A Clockwork Orange among many others.
