Will we? Won’t we? The answer to the question of whether or not we’ll see a hoverboard in 2015, as we first saw in Back to the Future II, is a maybe. Hendo has created a version of Marty McFly’s futuristic deck that attempts to take it one step further into realizing that ambitious dream. The company utilizes four disc-shaped hover engines that create a special magnetic field which pushes against itself, thus, generating a one-inch lift for levitation. The major drawback is that the board only works above a conductive surface (i.e. copper sheeting). So unless you’re within the vicinity of a spot with such a surface, or live near Hendo’s planned hoverpark, mobility is limited. But even though this may not be the exact hoverboard from Robert Zemeckis’ classic time travel trilogy, it certainly raises some intrigue.
Hendo is currently on Kickstarter looking for backers, so head over to this link if you’re interested in contributing to the project.
