Engineered to tackle the most difficult of off-road runs, Nike‘s 2013 fall trail footwear collection gains inspiration from the backyard of where it’s headquartered: the trails and terrain of Eastern Oregon. For the urban runner, the great outdoors pose its own set of challenges very different from any metropolis, thus making certain models inadequate to brave its rough and rugged environment. So for its latest trail rang, Nike developed three new running silhouettes that will equip each runner with the traction, natural motion and lightweight performance suited for any adventure.

Kicking it off with the Nike Free Hyperfeel Trail Run initially previewed here, this model ditches the Flyknit upper found on its parent silhouette — the Nike Free Hyperfeel — and opts for a breathable mesh with synthetic mudguard overlay. However a small dose of Flyknit construction can still be found around its ankle to provide a unique custom fit that allows the shoe to move with the runner as they traverse uneven terrain. Its key attribute comes in the form of a Free-inspired Lunarlon foam drop-in midsole to enhance flexibility whilst providing lightweight resilient cushioning. This innovation is then combined with a thin web rubber trail-specific Waffle outsole to aid in gripping the ruggedly uneven ground. Rounding it out with Dynamic Flywire and a unique lacing system, the Free Hyperfeel Trail Run shines very brightly in this range.

Next up is the Nike Zoom Terra Kiger named after the Kiger Mustang horse, which was known for its stamina, agility and sure-footed run. First seen here, this model is designed to fit like a track spike with its engineered mesh upper and Dynamic Flywire for superior lock-down. Its midsole combines Phylon and Cushlon foam that drops from heel to toe for a more natural range of motion and optimal stride. Additional details include sharp lugs on its rubber outsole, a mesh inner sleeve, and Zoom Air units in both its heel and forefoot.

Lastly, the trail collection includes the Nike Zoom Terra Wildhorse — seen here — to match the overall design aesthetics of the Terra Kiger at a price point that is a tad cheaper. Just like its Terra sibling mentioned before, the Wildhorse features a Phylon-Cushlon midsole with Zoom Air units in both its heel and forefoot. Its single layer mono mesh upper however, features a slightly different build, yet still offers a Dynamic Fit with a molded sock liner.

The Nike trail footwear collection is explained in further detail here, with each model currently available at select retailers as well as Nike’s webstore.
