Joining Apple‘s new low-cost iPhone 5c, as expected, is the latest evolution of the iPhone 5: the iPhone 5s. Now boasting a brand new A7 processor – the first 64-bit chip in a smartphone – the 5S is said to be more than twice as fast as the original iPhone 5 while providing a 40x increase in CPU performance and 56x faster graphics. Working in conjunction with the A7 is a new M7 co-processor that continuously measures motion, gyroscope, compass and accelerometer data. Further additions include an upgraded battery and a new camera system that features dual LED true tone flash and a five-element lens with F2.2 aperture, a sensor with an active area 15% larger than that of its predecessor, auto stabilization, larger 1.5 micron pixels, and even a new burst and slow-mo modes. Finally, as an added level of security, Apple has implemented a Touch ID fingerprint scanner into the iPhone 5s’s “Home” button – simply touch the button and the device will unlock. 16GB, 32 GB and 64GB versions will be available for $199 USD, $299 USD and $399 USD (with a two-year contract) in Silver, Gold and Space Grey colorways beginning September 20.
