There is a new star rising on the music scene and she goes by the name of SZA. After releasing her debut See.SZA.Run EP last year and her most recent project S, the New Jersey native has finished the work on her upcoming new EP Z in Los Angeles. While at the studio, she was working with the TDE camp as she revealed in a recent interview. It remains to be seen what these two entities will come up with in the future but today, the alternative songstress unleashes an early impression from Z in the shape of “Teen Spirit.” Produced by teenage music prodigy WondaGurl, the appropriately titled “Teen Spirit” endows us with SZA’s signature glitter-trap musings. “Don’t come close, you don’t even know me, you think you know me” she sings.
As a bonus you can listen to her other new jam, “Julia,” below. It is an 80s-influenced record and was recorded just last week as a whimsical creation with her and producer Felix Snow, who is also responsible for the bulk of the production the S EP. Producer Dave Free adds a special dedication at the end of the song. She opens the song with the lyrics, “Loving alone is what you make it, stay for the storm if you can take it,” and from there on, SZA compels the listener with a combo of intriguing lyrics with a heartfelt melody and her signature cooes.
