Alvaro Ilizarbe "Surveying" Exhibition @ Martha Otero Gallery

With a background in design, textiles and graphics, Peruvian artist Alvaro Ilizarbe presents a solo exhibition that merges his fortes into large-scale illustrations under “Surveying.’ Here, Ilizarbe depicts landscape imagery on topographical tectonic plate-shaped panels, capturing the raw energy of silhouettes inspired by the terrain surrounding Los Angeles. Portraying the Earth’s stratum via illustrations of irregular slopes in a desolate land, Ilizarbe’s monochromatic paintings are bold and abstract, conjuring sentiments of alienation and remoteness. “Surveying” will be exhibited from August 10 to September 7 at the Martha Otero Gallery, be sure to check the show out if you’re in town.
