Sony Updates Its High-Powered Camera Division with the Sony RX1R and RX100MII

The original releases of the Sony Cyber-shot RX1 and the RX100 presented two high-powered options for the photography enthusiast. While there was no question that these wouldn’t necessarily serve as a replacement to your current DSLR setup, nevertheless the compact form factor and awesome specs made for a compelling case as a back-up or high-quality walk-around shooter. Following up quickly upon the initial debuts, two new updates enter the picture in the form of the RX1R and the RX100MII. Both flagships in their own right, the RX1R enjoys a modification to its full-frame sensor, now allowing the potential for greater detailed shots thanks to the removal of the anti-aliasing filter. Aside from that, some of the same components are maintained such as the f/2 Carl Zeiss fixed lens. No slouch itself, the RX100MII incorporates a new 1-inch sensor — a first of its kind in a body of this size — that will also feature upwards of 40% greater sensor sensitivity in low-light conditions for both cleaner shots and quicker focusing. From a pricing standpoint, the RX1R maintains its $2,800 USD MSRP while the newly redefined RX100MII gets a $100 USD bump to $750 USD.
