Now, Jermaine gives us an official explanation on the record while at an album listening session. He provides a full context of the situation that led to the single “Work Out,” starting all the way back with “Who Dat.” Through that long process, Cole had countless meetings with Jay-Z to discuss new songs he had made. Although Jay backed them as good songs, Roc Nation concluded that none of them were hits. After his breakthrough moment with “Work Out,” he was devastated to learn what his hero thought of the song.
