Band of Outsiders creative director Scott Sternberg doesn’t show his men’s collections on the runway, opting instead for interactive and often unpredictable presentations. For Spring/Summer 2014, he decided upon Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont Hotel as the site for his latest men’s looks. Equally interesting was the inspiration for the clothes themselves — a ’70s “prepster” Mick Jagger trapped in a hotel room that, according to Sternberg embodied a “cool, sexy, easy, youthful vibe.” Playing the part of Jagger was another frontman of note, Devendra Barnhart, who was filmed reality TV-style by cameras as he changed into 21 looks throughout the course of the day. Starting, quite fittingly, with patterned sleepwear, looks progressed into more familiar BoO territory — trim suiting in pastel shades and lightweight fabrics, along with prep staples like shorts and chinos. Hoodies and blazers, meanwhile, were updated for the rock star life in leather, as was a sweatsuit redone in gold nylon taffeta.
