The Velour story started back in 1997, when Per Andersson rummaged through his grandmother’s old ready-to-wear shop, which closed in the mid-eighties after 50 years of business. That experience gave birth to Nostalgi — a Göteborg-based shop selling deadstock clothes, remakes, art and design — and later, Velour, Andersson’s first clothing line. Almost eight years after launching its first collection, the Swedish label continues to churn out a “classic preppy look with traditional garments redesigned in a new stylish, yet effortless, way.” For Spring/Summer 2013, this means everyday wardrobe staples like chinos, shorts, and button-downs reworked with vintage touches and pops of color and pattern — garments that wouldn’t look out of place at Grandma Andersson’s old shop, but with a modern, sartorial flair. Highlights include the Guy Jacket, a printed update of this season’s essential denim jacket, and Common ’60s Print Shirt, along with the label’s Lighthouse pants and shorts in spring shades like mustard and green.
