When everything is said and done, Takashi Murakami will undoubtedly go down as one of the most influential artists of our time. After receiving a Master’s in Nihonga painting from Tokyo University of the Arts, Murakami went on to develop a unique style influenced by the canon of Japanese art. Over the course of a generation, we’ve witnessed the results: psychedelic, animated illustrations that defy realism and test the limits of artistic imagination. To commemorate a 20-year relationship with the artist, Galerie Perrotin held a solo exhibition in Hong Kong – Murakami’s ninth in the perpetually growing metropolis. Enjoy photos of the exhibit above, which features new work by Mr. DOB, Murakami’s famed alter ego. The solo exhibition runs through July 6.
