Michael Murphy "Damage" @ AVA

It would seem that everyone has an opinion on the gun control debate in the U.S. today, especially in light of recent events – including the formation and functionality of the world’s first 3D-printed plastic gun. No matter where you stand though, it’s hard to see ‘eye to eye’ with the next person, especially given the varying experiences and culture between states; even cities. Such is the premise for Michael Murphy‘s new installation at AVA in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The exhibit is a series of black ping-pong balls hung from the ceiling, which depending on your perspective, form the shape of a rifle. An apt commentary indeed, “Damage” is viewable at AVA through June 29. Below is a short video that presents the making of the piece.
