LAQ, the luxury furniture design firm headed by Raphaël Lancrey Javal and Pascal Maugein, recently partnered with Craig Redman and his iconic Darcel character to produce a series of functional sculptures, currently on display at the La Casa Encendida in Madrid. The collection consists of two stools and a third with Darcel seated upon it. While the shapes and colors appear simplistic enough, they are crafted out of a polychromatic lacquer with mother-of-pearl and eggshell inlays. Adding to the mystery is Darcel himself; the sculpture’s eye can be pulled out to reveal a hidden drawer housed inside the figure’s body.
The exhibition also features the works of 20 other artists including AJ Fosik, Tim Biskup, FriendsWithYou, Mark Gmehling, Doma, Genevieve Gauckler, Jeremyville, KAWS, Raymond Lemstra and many others. It will remain open for viewing from May 23 all the way until September 8.
