Contrary to popular belief, the combination of a smartphone and filter app is not the same as having a camera. However, the ubiquity of this idea has forced many camera manufacturers to test the limits of their products. Cue Japanese brand Ricoh, whose highly anticipated “GR” model has recently been unveiled. The compact 117mm camera was constructed to cater specifically to the creative impulses of many photographers. A 1.0 second start-up and shut-down time, versatile built-in effects, and a high-sensitivity APS-C CMOS sensor – depicting up to 16.2 megapixels – make the upcoming Ricoh GR an essential to a photographer on the move.
