Currently on display at Culver City’s Thinkspace is the latest exhibition from Melbourne-based artist MEGGS. Entitled “Heavenly Creatures” and featuring an ambitious multitude of paintings, sculptures and installations, the exhibition gives a contemporary voice to mythological themes and imagery that have endured through time. As such, the exhibit features both representations and abstract, impressionist designs while highlighting characters of myth and fantasy – each addressing the powers of belief and ideology. One of the more unique aspects to the display is a large-scale thaumatrope created specifically for the exhibition – a Victorian device that appears to combine two distinct pictures thanks to the “persistence of vision” phenomenon. “Heavenly Creatures” opened on April 6 and will remain available for viewing through April 27.
