Acclaimed Dutch photographer and filmmaker Ari Marcopoulos recently completed “Piece of Shit,” a short film on RATKING. Shot on Super 16mm, “Piece of Shit” features RATKING performing a live, one take version of their song of the same name from last November’s WIKI93 EP. The result is a documentary-style video shot in the trio’s Brooklyn practice space that displays Marcopoulos’ signature muted, black and white aesthetic. To compliment the film, Marcopoulos created a limited edition 5″ x 7″ zine comprised of 38 original film stills, photographs and screen grabs. Titled “Piece of Shit,” the zine documents RATKING wandering New York City, recording their debut album with legendary DJ/audio engineer Young Guru (at Just Blaze’s Harlem studio), and rehearsing for their upcoming tour with GZA. “Piece of Shit,” the zine, is limited to 150 copies and will be available from XL Recordings’ online store, Dashwook Books, Reed Space and at RATKING’s upcoming live shows. Some of the group’s upcoming live shows dates and venues can be seen here.
