Like the designer himself, Julien David‘s collections resist labels. A Parisian by birth, David honed his skills in New York before moving to Tokyo, where he currently designs and produces collections for his eponymous label. And, while the globetrotting designer may be better known for women’s wear — he designed women’s clothing at both Narciso Rodriguez and Ralph Lauren in New York — David’s street-influenced, luxurious style translates just as seamlessly to his men’s collections. Drawing upon the concept of youth, Julien David’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection features printed shirting and sumptuous sweats, as well as classic items like slim chinos, knits and lightweight outerwear. Dinosaurs, toys and childlike scrawls appear as motifs on shirts, while cheeky embroidered graphics like combs and caps feature on knitwear. Elsewhere, “grown-up” pieces such as woven shirts and pants offer classic, easy-to-wear pieces with subtle twists and updates.
