"This Is Not A Toy" Exhibition by Design Exchange Co-Curated by Pharrell Williams

Canadian non-profit museum Design Exchange has tapped cultural icon Pharrell Williams in an effort to launch a brand new exhibition exploring the art movement of “urban vinyl.” Co-curated by Williams in conjunction with John Wee Tom and DX’s own Sara Nickleson, “This Is Not A Toy” is set to include works from highly influential artists like KAWS, Takashi Murakami, Yoshitomo Nara, FriendsWithYou, Huck Gee, Coarse, Frank Kozik, Misaki Kawai, Doma, Bill McMullen and many more – not to mention a bevy of pieces from Pharrell’s personal collection. Key to the display will be an interactive time-based installation – in which visitors will customize 150 7” blank Munnys with paintball guns over the course of the show’s run – as well as customized 18” Munnys from 10 of Canada’s leading designers and artists, a retrospective courtesy of Toronto’s own Magic Pony, an essay from Generation X author Douglas Coupland, and more.
