While Beyoncé‘s new self-titled visual album has broken the iTunes record, Target won’t jump on the same train. According to their spokesperson Erica Julkowski, the retailer won’t carry it because the project was released digitally before it was made available physically.
“When a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections. While there are many aspects that contribute to our approach and we have appreciated partnering with Beyoncé in the past, we are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as all other formats. At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyoncé’s new self-titled album Beyoncé.”
Most physical retailers will receive it by Friday, December 20, with no additional bonus or exclusive content. The pop icon has previously worked with Target to give the retailer exclusive editions of her albums. She also starred in a TV commercial for the retailer, where the singer can be heard saying “I put so much into my new album, and only Target gives you all of it.”
