Lu Xinjian Depicts Shanghai's Vibrant Cityscape

Advancing his City DNA series, Chinese artist Lu Xinjian moves from painting his unique cityscape

Advancing his City DNA series, Chinese artist Lu Xinjian moves from painting his unique cityscape depictions to creating a vibrant fluorescent light installation. Using Google Earth imagery as a blueprint, the artist reimagines an aerial view of Shanghai in his signature abstract style. To represent the city’s rapid growth as China’s most populated metropolis, Xinjian uses a flash program to expand the illuminated area until it engulfs the entire rectangular piece. This installation is showing in Art Labor‘s “I Love Shanghai” exhibit until January 5, 2014.
