As mobile photography becomes an increasingly reputable medium, Associated Press photographer David Guttenfelder has just won TIME Magazine‘s “Instagram Photographer of the Year” award. Guttenfelder received the nod after releasing a series of images taken in North Korea, a country notable for its censorship – amongst other things. As detailed in an interview with Wired, the photographer aimed to “piece together a picture of [the] country for the whole world to see…,” an amiable goal in light of the DPRK’s newly-loosened laws regarding mobile phones and 3G networks. Enjoy for a moment the stark images – a poignant, unsparing look inside one of the world’s great modern enigmas.
