It really isn’t easy being green. This fact will unfortunately not get any more poignant for Kermit the Frog than when The Muppets return to the big screen next year in a sequel titled Muppets Most Wanted. As the title implies, there are plenty of caper-solving hijinks in store for The Muppets who, while on tour in Europe, are embroiled in a bad case of mistaken identity when Kermit is replaced by a Russian criminal fugitive lookalike.
While the idea of yet another Muppets movie might appear to be the latest in Hollywood’s idea-deprived grab for reboot material, it’s worth mentioning that The Muppets released back in 2011 was surprisingly well-received both at the box office and by critics. In fact, it managed to out-gross all of the previous films in the series with the exception of The Muppet Movie (1979), a considerable success for any cultural icon franchise trying to find new audiences. Directed by returning director James Bobin, the Disney movie’s human cast includes Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell and Tina Fey. Look for it in theaters on March 21, 2014.
