For all the talk of ‘corporate takeover’ within skateboarding, here we give special kudos to Emerica for keeping the game competitive. Following up on a string of strong releases in 2013, Emerica presents Zoo York professional Brandon Westgate with a new model. The shoe is notable departure from the mid-rise vulcanized version that released some seasons ago, and this time takes cues from running-specific sneakers to produce an athletic, supportive silhouette. A key point here is the shoe’s lightness: the Brandon Westgate uses lightweight engineered mesh on the tongue and medial sidewall for superior breathability, while also cleverly cutting weight through cutouts in the outsole – which double to increase forefoot flexibility. The midsole is composed of high-rebound G6™ foam, the same material found on the successful Herman G6. Audiences will be able to score this new sneaker for $90 USD at finer skate shops worldwide, as well as Emerica’s web store, beginning on November 12.
