AMERICAN RAG Head Buyer Lindsey Allen Discusses the Converse Jack Purcell

Whether it’s a focusing on iconic and well-made goods or putting consumers onto the latest sartorial developments, AMERICAN RAG has been able to set forth and truly define its aesthetic. Years of experience and thanks to the dedicated and selective eye of Head Buyer Lindsey Allen has all contributed to the ongoing success of the retailer. Aligning with another similar piece of iconic design and branding, we spoke with Allen and her thoughts on fellow American entity, Converse and the Jack Purcell.

How would you define AMERICAN RAG’s aesthetic? What about AR’s shoppers?

We are very selective with what we buy. We pay attention to quality & style before price. I would say we intensify trends and divulge innovative methods to deter from “mainstream” fashion. We are known for finding the “American Rag” customer, and though that differs depending on location, the goal is unified across the board—to be different.

How does the AR aesthetic align with Converse Jack Purcell?

We are well known for our vintage aesthetic and Converse’s Jack Purcell tells this same story.

What do you find compelling about the Jack Purcell Camo print?

I like the combination of two originals-Jack Purcell and camo. Everyone owns one of the two. This style is nice blend of these looks. JP is such a classic silhouette, and Camo print has been around for ages

How do you think the Converse JP Camo influences or inspires your shoppers personal style?

The JP camo is very versatile & can be worn back to a lot of different collections we buy. Our goal is for our customers to find pieces that they can build their wardrobe with.

Stylistically, what is an inherently an AMERICAN RAG look/outfit and how does something like the JP Camo fit in?

We have a wide range of customers & styles. JP camo can be worn with basically anything, from a pair of RRL jeans & Engineered Garments jacket to a pair of COMMES des GARCONS drop crotch shorts & Stephan Schneider button-up.
