The T-shirt is the basic staple of any comfortable modern wardrobe, though in recent times its value has been somewhat denounced. T-World Magazine (“The World’s Only T-shirt Journal”) sought to highlight and explore the role of T-shirts in Melbourne’s booming streetwear economy. Through the lens of various artists, designers and producers, “TEES” engages discussion about exactly what goes into creating a unique shirt. In addition, the short piece explores the myriad influences that play a role in shirt production, from manufacturing, to music and graffiti. While it may seem difficult to imagine the T-shirt as more than an elaborately decorated piece of cloth, “TEES” proposes the shirt as a canvas–forcing the viewer to reconsider.
