Ahead of the BCS National, Nike unveils the latest uniforms to be worn by the University of Alabama’s Crimson Tide football team. As the pictures will show and as any team bent on victory will have it, even a uniform is a sophisticated piece of sports equipment. As such, the Tide’s latest uniform is built for maximum performance, and it shows.
As both exertion and the amount of added protection needed for football places added demands on a player’s ability to keep their temperature down, the uniform places a huge emphasis on ventilation. The team will wear the Pro Combat Hypercool Speed Top, which uses Nike’s trademark moisture-wicking Dri-FIT fabric. Nike Chain Maille Mesh is built into the back and underarms for added cooling without compromising the necessary durability of the uniform. Other cooling features include laser perforation pods and reinforced bonded seams.
This same emphasis on thermoregulation extends all the way down to the gloves the team will wear. The new Nike Vapor Fly Glove features a no-cuff, seamless Hyperfuse construction for weight reduction, Magnigrip material on the palm for grip, and pre-curved fingers for fit. In addition, the new uniform will have strategically placed seams to reduce chafing, and pads to add bulk-reducing protection at the “hit zone” located between the knees and shoulders. Look for these special uniforms when the Crimson Tide take to the field for BCS National Championship game.
