Matthew Miller 2013 Fall/Winter Collection

Failure, or rather, our generation’s inability to produce good art was the driving force behind Matthew Miller‘s Fall/Winter 2013 collection. Known for his digital prints and tailored silhouettes, the designer sent a sombre procession of simple black pieces down the runway in London — high tech raincoats, murdered-out single and double-breasted suit combos, knits, leather jackets and Timberland collaboration. If one sensed something reptilian lurking, it was due to Miller’s use of crocodile-stamped leathers – part of his commentary on the “endangered species” that music and art have become. And, if that message wasn’t already clear enough, “Born to Fail” was emblazoned on sweaters in red and black leather, though any pessimism was tempered with the collection’s perfect tailoring and inherent wearability.
