FILMography: Matching Hollywood Films with Their Exact Locations

Hollywood films are usually marked by two things: great performances and terrific backdrops to tell stories from a variety of genres. A relatively new Tumblr/website called “FILMography” serves as visual documentation of real life locales matched with their silver screen counterparts. Journalist Christopher Moloney decided to start printing out stills from the films and comparing them to their real-life New York City counterparts – thus creating a series of whimsical world views from the likes of films like Midnight Run, The French Connection and Shaft. In describing the project with Vanity Fair he commented, “You can tell just how much filmmakers like Woody Allen and Martin Scorsese and Spike Lee love the city. It’s sometimes hard to believe that those three very different places are all the same city.” To check out more images, head here.
