Christopher Kane 2013 Fall/Winter Collection

Growing up in the ’90s, designer Christopher Kane was allowed the guilty pleasure of staying up and watching horror movies with his aunt. The sense of macabre he seems to have developed from those films was in full force for Fall/Winter 2013, a camp-goth party to which Frankenstein, the Creature from the Black Lagoon and Count Dracula were invited, roughly in that order. As always, black was the collection’s prevalent hue, joined by purple – both favorites of Kane – while leopard and jaguar animal prints jostled with the monsters for graphic prominence. The garments themselves fit to a tee — slim bottoms, slouchier knits and structured outerwear — while outfits were largely grounded by velvet slippers. Embroidered with both flowers and monsters, they were all part of the delightfully wacky, glam-horror procession that was Christopher Kane’s London show.
